Disability prevalences for Sullivan method and their variances

The determination of tex2html_wrap_inline994 is the subject matter of the table 2. The different columns of that table are calculated as following:

Age Institutionalized tex2html_wrap_inline1320 Disability prevalences tex2html_wrap_inline994 tex2html_wrap_inline1340

Tableau 2: Calculations of the prevalence ratios of disability, tex2html_wrap_inline994 , and tex2html_wrap_inline996 .

1st column:
ages.

2nd column:
the institutionalization ratios in the whole population, tex2html_wrap_inline1210 ,. These rates were derived from census.

3rd column:
the numbers of males in age-group i who participated to the health survey, tex2html_wrap_inline1320 .

4th column:
permanent disability prevalence ratios in non institutionalized population (health survey data), tex2html_wrap_inline1214 .

5th column:
gives tex2html_wrap_inline994 , prevalence ratios of disability to use in Sullivan formulae:

displaymath409

6th column:
variance of tex2html_wrap_inline994 , tex2html_wrap_inline1340 . Instead of using formula   (which must be used when the survey directly provides tex2html_wrap_inline994 ) we use :

equation413

that is to say that we do not consider tex2html_wrap_inline1210 as a random variable, justified by the fact we use census data.

Remark: If tex2html_wrap_inline1210 had been determined by a survey, its variance could be non negligiblegif.
